Image result for thank you

To the grade 7T class: First of all, I had to tear out of school yesterday, so I never had the chance to properly thank you for the beautiful picnic party you threw for me.  Let me say it now: the thought you put into the food, the personalized notes in the photo album, and even the Dora the Explorer Spoon, did not go unnoticed.  From day 1 this year, you have been an energetic, fun-loving class and I have thoroughly enjoyed being your math/language teacher.  Even the time we have spent together playing soccer in DPA has been a real highlight for me.

I wish you all the best in grade 8!

8L and 7T: I am still 3 tricycles short of a proper Mario Kart game.  If you have any time this weekend to dust one off that's hiding in the back of the garage, it would be very much appreciated.  I will take good care of it.

KUDOS TO: Sam for cleaning up after all the boys who left their chairs everywhere after lunch.

1. Final day for filming is this Thursday.

Friday, 3 June 2016

Friday, June 3rd, 2016

I hope you're having a beautiful day outside, sunning yourself, playing in the park, throwing a frisbee in a completely safe fashion, or riding your bike.  If you're not, get out!

Grade 8: The final day for filming will take place this Thursday (that is a generous extension, so don't bother asking for more).  This deadline means directors need to sift through the footage with editors to ensure you have all the shots and angles necessary, actors need to go through their lines over and over this weekend to prepare for the final scenes, and editors need to throw the footage on the timelines (worry about trimming after).   Let's get this done.

Finally, next Friday is "Revenge of the Ramen Noodles: Chopsticks Chop Back!".  Be prepared.  Image result for evil chopsticks

Thursday, June 2, 2016

8L and 7T Parents: I'm very sorry that I couldn't make the BBQ tonight: I would have very much liked to have seen all of you in person, but it was my daughter's school's BBQ as well!

Have a great long weekend.  If this comes as a surprise to you, please do not send your child to school tomorrow.

KUDOS TO: Justin for the first weekly "Ramen Noodle Fest"!  Great success.

KUDOS TO: Super-Pauline and Yasmin for cleaning up the class after art.

8 ENGLISH: we will be beginning "Macbeth" very soon, so over the weekend, read the story of Macbeth found here.  (I know it's June, and I know it's hot, but this play is even hotter).   If you wish to get a copy of the play, the Shakespeare on the Double editions are quite good (Shakespeare's language on one side, and the modern language on the right). Image result for shakespeare on the double macbeth

For those who haven't turned in your lit circle books, hand them in on Monday.

8 Math: yes, probability soon....

7 ENGLISH: we finished the final lit circle activity, and we'll wrap up the media/ad analysis next week (likely Tuesday).  Keep in mind: who is the specific target audience? How do you know Did the ad successfully sell the product to that audience? What techniques were used successfully? Unsuccessfully?

7 MATH We began an interesting new tack in Math class.  Ask your child about it...

Wednesday, 1 June 2016

Wednesday, June 1st, 2015

Tomorrow is Ramen Noodle day!  Thanks JC!  Bust out those noodles and we'll have a little MSG festival.

KUDOS TO: Melodie, for once again being the assistant de l'année for shot put.

The deadline for summer school registration is June 3rd.  If you have already been contacted by me, and you have been given the form, please ensure you register through career cruising before the June 3rd deadline.

Hi Parents! This is a note from Amanda Shulman, the mom of Mia Shulman in your child’s grade 8 class.  Thank you to those of you who have reached out to confirm your attendance to the party we are hosting on June 15th.  If you have not yet rsvp’d please send an email to amanda_shulman@hotmail.com for details.  Thanks!

All grade 8s must complete an exit survey (this is Board-mandated) by June 9. There will be time given in school to do this, but if you want to get ahead a bit and get it done, it would relieve the necessity for booking so many computers for the class.  This link  bit.ly/grade8exitsurvey  will take you to the survey (it's only 3 questions).

Finally, the volunteer tea invitations came home today for those parents who have been involved in any volunteer activities/roles at the school.

7 + 8 ENGLISH: the summative task is tomorrow.  Shots, angles, movement, lighting....I wonder what the task could be?!

7 ENGLISH: finish the review of the print ad through hangouts.  We will be conferencing tomorrow.

7 MATH: The 8.4 and 8.5 quiz came home today - what a stellar performance by the group: absolutely everyone got a frog stamp (a pass).

8 MATH: Figure out the last time we actually had a math class.

Tuesday, 31 May 2016

Track and field part II will take place tomorrow, first three periods of the day.  Again, sunscreen, hats, sneakers, water...all the essentials.

KUDOS TO: Melodie for being the best shot put assistant on the planet.  Possibly even the universe.

Grade 8 Girls: Today was black top day, tomorrow is blue top.

7 and 8 English: the final lit circle activity will take place this coming Thursday (it's an in-class assignment).  Here's a clue: think about films, shot sizes, camera movement...In preparation, you might want to re-read sections of the novel to re-familiarize yourself with the text.

7 Math: great job today with percentages - you guys really grasped the concept.

8: The final 60 minutes of the day will be dedicating to filming (I think we have four days left).  Be prepared: make sure you read your scripts, you have your costumes, and you know where the filming will take place.  Finally, editors: start loading the footage on to the computers.  If you teammates have footage, start hassling them for the shots.
