Le Moine/Punnoose 8 Math re-test review

1. Evaluate

a) (-3) + (-6)             b) (-4) - (-4)              c) -2 + -5              d) 12 - (-2)

2. Add (-12) + (4)
b) Find two other pairs of integers that have the same sum

3. Multiply
a) (7) x (-2) =           b) -5 x -5 =                c) -7 x 7 =            d) -12 x 6 =

4. Simplify in two (or three) steps:
a) (-4)(2)(-2)(1)                      b) (-1)(-2)(-3)(-4)

5. Divide
a) (-30)/5 =                b) 12/-6 =                 c) -18/-3 =                 d) 100/-100 =

6.  Using tiles, demonstrate the following subtraction (and show the answer):    8 - (-2)

7.  M. Le Moine is on top of his house (30 feet above the ground), and he drops his hammer off the roof and into a ditch.  The ditch is 4 feet under ground.  What is the difference in height between the top of the house and the bottom of the ditch?  Begin by writing an expression to represent the numbers!

8.  Can a negative number multiplied by another negative number produce a positive product?   Explain your response.

9.  The price of a mint condition Pikachu Gold card is $400.  You walk out of the store, card in hand, smile on your face, and it immediately drops in value by 10%.  Arriving home, your little brother finds it, chews the corner and its value drops by $50.  Your dad sees the card and begins practising throwing it against the wall.  He damages 2 corners, and each corner damaged reduces the value of the card by $20.  What is the new value of your slightly marred Pikachu card?  Write an integer expression to represent this problem.
